1 the fox. 2 a fox walked around a path and found a bast shoe, which was throwen away. 3 he arrived into a village and begged a landlord: "landlord, let me stay a night (at yours)!" 4 the landlord said to him: "there is no room! the house is tight!" 5 "well! do i need a big space! i will lie on the pallet, i put my tail under the pallet." 6 the landlord let him stay. 7 the fox said: "put my bast shoe among your hens!" 8 the man did so. 9 at night-time the fox got up and hid his bast shoe. in the morning, when he got up, he asked for his bast shoe. 10 the landlord told him: "fox, my friend, it's gone!" 11 "well!" said the fox, "if so, give me therefor one of your hens!" 12 he took a hen. he arrived into another village and asked to put his hen among the landlords geese. 13 at night-time the fox hid his hen and gathered therefor a goose. 14 he arrived into another village, was begging a landlord (for overnight accommodation) and asked (him) to put his goose among the aries. 15 at night-time the fox stole an arie and in the morning he asked: "give me therefor your ox!" thereon they gave (the ox). 16 the fox slaughert all he got: the hen, the goose, the arie and the ox. 17 he hid the meat and filled the ox hide with straw and put it on the path. 18 a bear and a wolf came around, and the fox said to them: "go, and steal a sleight and a collar! let's ride (them) (with the ox)!" 19 they stole a sleight and a collar, put the ox to and sit alltogether into the sleight. 20 the fox was the coachman and started to drive on. 21 he shouts: "come off it! come off it! ox, you strow mattress, is the sleight a stranger for you, don't you have your own collar? go, don't stand!" the ox wasn't moving. 22 the fox jumped out off the sleight and started to scream: "stay on, fools!" and he also went away. 23 the bear and the wolf were pleased about eating the ox. 24 thus, (they started) to tear the ox... they tore, tore - and then they saw only straw! 25 they shaked they heads and walked away. 26 after that they returned back home.
